If you have installed the Windows Live Messenger 2009 downloaded from sites like Softpedia (off-line installer/stand-alone installer) and when you sign in to the messenger, probably you have got an error message ‘We can’t sign you in to Windows Live Messenger’ with an error code 80040154 (See screen shot).
You can simply solve this issue by installing a small file (947Kb) from Microsoft.
Just download Contacts-ship-neutral.cab from Microsoft and unzip it. Run the ‘Contacts.msi’ file and wait for finishing it. Now you can sign in to your Live Messenger without any problem.
Probably this issue may be because the Windows Live Messenger standalone installer may not have included the Windows Live Communication platform.
Great tips. I have this problem before and now it solved. Thanks.
